Description |
The Takyeongjongtaekmunjeok Records include five documents about Kim Ilson and his wife regarding the posthumous conferment of honors and a ceremonial document used for protocol purposes at the Jagyeseowon Confucian Academy. When the Jagyeseowon Confucian Academy was elevated to the rank of a Saek Confucian Academy (an institute officially subsidized by the king of Joseon), it was required to update its official property list. During this process, a certified copy was made of revisions to the academy’s ownerships documents (detailing the academy’s ownership of land and rice paddies) and its appendix (which detailed the academy’s “ownership” of slaves). Kim Ilson (pen name, Takyeong) passed the Civil Service Examinations in 1486 (17th year of the reign of King Seongjong); in the years that followed, he served in advisory and judicial positions and as a high government official. In 1498, he was executed for initiating a movement to include a document written by the scholar Kim Jong-jik, criticizing the usurpation of the throne by Grand Prince Suyang (King Sejo), in historical records. Later, when Grand Prince Jinseong (King Joongjong) usurped the then-King Yeonsanggun (10th king of Joseon), Kim Ilson was posthumously named Chief Royal Secretary and the Minister of Interior, and was granted the posthumous epithet, “Moonmin.” |
