Detailed Information

Detailed Information - Description , What to See Nearby
Description The trace fossils of dinosaur footprints found in Gosangol, on Apsan Mountain, date back to the Cretaceous Period in the Mesozoic Era, more than hundreds of millions of years ago. Four or five trace fossils are visible on the flat stone (graphite) river bed, which is about 23 to 26 square meters in size, of a small river below a hiking trail. The 20- to 30-centimeter-long, three-toed footprints are presumed to have been made by an herbivorous dinosaur of the ornithopod or sauropod species.

Ripple marks, which are often formed in shallow lakesides, and mud cracks (polygon patterns created as the stratum contracts after the water it contains evaporates) can also be found here and are valuable indicators as to the environmental conditions at that time.
