The Red Spider Lilies that grow along this trail impart a certain vitalizing energy to visitors and reach their peak in mid-September. Red Spider Lilies are also known as “Pianhwa (彼岸華) (the flower of paradise in the Buddhist world of enlightenment)”. This is because their leaves sprout after the flowers fall, and the leaves spend the winter in the snow. Throughout the summer, they undergo no noticeable change, but when fall comes, they burst into red blossoms. This process is likened to how a person breaks away from this world of suffering to enter Nirvana.

As a result, they were often planted within temple grounds; but there is another practical reason for that. Starch was extracted from their bulbs and used for bookbinding or to mount the altar portraits of Buddha.

At the Fitness Facilities within the field of Red Flower Lilies, visitors are provided interesting health-related information, such as how the standard physique (waistline) of Koreans changes with age. Also, the picnic tables and benches provide an excellent place for couples and families to sit together and chat.
