DescriptionThis Wooden Seated Sakyamuni enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall (Main Hall) of Eunjeoksa Temple is a statue of the Buddha with his right hand on his right knee and his index finger of his upturned left palm pointing toward the ground (signifying the attainment of enlightenment by Siddhartha Gautama). The style of the statue indicates that it was created by the monk and sculptor Hacheon, who was active during the late Joseon period. No literary records containing the name of its sculptor or date of its creation have been found, but this statue is of great value due to its high level of detail and characteristic early 18th-century style.
