Description | The Wooden Seated Sakyamuni is a well-preserved statue of the Buddha enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall (Main Hall) of Anilsa Temple. The title of the statue and style of dress are some of the features that characterize wooden Buddha statues of the late 17th century. According to records of its construction found among the artifacts enshrined inside the statue at the time of its creation, the Wooden Seated Sakyamuni was created in 1694 by Takmil and Bowung and other monks specializing in sculpture. This statue is particularly notable because the name of its sculptors and the year of its creation are clearly recorded, making it an invaluable resource in the research of trends in the construction of Buddha statues. |
