    On October 26, 2018, Nam-gu was the first district in Korea to host a Halloween festival, which was participated in by US Army bases in Daegu, the Daegu YWCA, merchant cooperatives of Anjirang Gopchang Alley and Apsan Café Street, and local artists. A giant pumpkin was cultivated especially for the festival and was used for various decorative purposes. The festival also included a variety of events (Super Pumpkin Contest, face painting, trick or treating, an EDM Party, etc.), making it a very popular festival among locals and visitors alike.

  • Nam-gu is closely connected to the concept of the Halloween festival. In the 1960s, the Daemyeong-dong area was a cemetery, and there were as many as three US military bases in Nam-gu alone. Nam-gu is also home to a number of specialized “food streets,” including Anjirang Gopchang Alley and Apsan Café Street (both of which received a Korea Tourism Award in 2018). These things, along with the area’s high concentration of individuals who work in culture and the arts along Daemyeong Performing Street, make Nam-gu the perfect place for a Halloween festival.
