Description

Bia is a metal printed book published during the early Joseon Era that describes the names of 297 objects. The printing in the book is still clearly visible, and overall, the book in its entirety has been well preserved. Yiajuso is a guide to the Chinese thesaurus Yia and is a metal printed book that was published during the early Joseon Era. The book, which is considered very rare due to the fact that it is printed exclusively using metal print, has been well preserved and is in good condition. Bia and Yiajuso are association copies that are marked with the ownership stamp of Toegye Yi Hwang, a prominent Korean Confucian scholar and philosopher. These two books are invaluable as historical materials, because they contain records on how the books were passed on to Toegye Yi Hwang’s descendants and on who exactly acquired each book.

Tweodoseongsaeng Ilgi are the diaries of Toegye Yi Hwang, penned by the scholar over the course of three years from 1542 to 1544; the diaries seem as if they were transcribed later by Hwang’s descendants. These diaries are the only records still remaining of the daily life of Toegye Yi Hwang, who played a significant role in Korean history. The diaries, which are recognized for their high academic value, contain information that complements Toegye’s Chronology (Toegye Yeonbo), which includes records of his activities as a secret royal inspector.

Another work in this collection is Jeon Hakbong Sigo (draft poems). This book is of great value in many ways, and is recognized for its rarity, unique style of penmanship, and high quality of work.
